It’s not like you can just snap your fingers and get interior design jobs sprouting up out of nowhere. But if you create an email list and put some extra time into it, you will start to ramp up your sales and get more interior design jobs. It’s all about communication, baby.

It’s going take at least like 20 times before someone who sees your interior design services decides to buy from you. Put your sad face away, I’ve got a solution for you.
Why won’t they buy from you?
They don’t know or trust you yet. You need to build a relationship. A relationship where you are giving your dream clients so much value and helping them that they can’t wait to work with you ONCE they know you are a legit designer who is going to bring their dreams to life. That’s why when you create your email list and use it, you are building a relationship with the people you really want to work with.
You Make Dreams Come True
Designers shouldn’t be in the business of creating rooms that are beautiful. You are in the business of creating spaces that allows your clients to make their dreams come true. It boils down to helping them creating spaces to make memories. And when most clients come to you it’s because there is something happening in their life at the exact moment they click the “Buy Now” button that they need you to help them make happen.
What free giveaway can you create for your clients that could help them make their home dreamy? All you need to do is think to what clients ask your help with all of the time and go from there. What you create doesn’t have to be a manifesto, you can tackle one subject like how to make a small room look larger. If you’re stumped on what you could teach check out eZine Articles and look at the massive list of articles other designers have submitted, but don’t read the articles, just see what the topics are because you don’t want to be influenced by what someone else wrote. You’re just looking at this for ideas – not to copy.
Step One – Create Something Amazing
You have many options to create your digital product but let me give you just three ideas.
If you hunker down, you can bust one of these out in a hour. Don’t over think it and feel like you have to give them every last detail, focus on three of your best tips and talk about them. If you’re doing audio or video, 30 minutes (or less) is a good amount of time to aim for. People are busy and don’t have time to waste, they want to learn and go.
Step Two – Create The Email List
You’re going to want to use MailChimp to create an email list. It’s free up to 2,000 subscribers. When you create your email list you’re going to set up your email opt in forms so your last email that goes to your subscriber, the “Final Welcome Email”, has a link for them to download your freebie.
Step Three – Add Email List Opt In to Website
Now you need a spot for your people to join your email list so they can get your beautiful and super valuable freebie. You’ll go to the section for Sign Up Forms and click on the “embedded forms” icon and grab the code to copy/paste into your website. If you don’t have a website yet, don’t worry. MailChimp gives you a link to your signup page that they host.
The three places you need to have your email list signup form:
- On your home page, above the fold.
- At the bottom of each blog post.
- In your blog sidebar, in the upper right hand corner.
In addition to these places, you can create a page just for your email list. You can name it “Free Tips” or “Freebies” and make that page just for signing up for your awesome freebie. Add that to your site navigation so they can’t miss it.
When you create an email list you’re just securing your future profits. Promise.
