You love combing the internet to get ideas for decorating your home. You can find just about anything you want these days and instructions on how to do it yourself. But sometimes the result you get just doesn’t look like the pictures you see. Ever wonder why?
Most of the pictures have been “styled” or set up specifically to look great as a picture. Not that the room itself doesn’t look great in person, but what the homeowner lives with is not always what’s pictured. Surprise!
Let me share with you a few tips and tricks that interior decorators use to get that luxury look without spending so much you’re eating ramen for the next six months:
Simple Interior Design Tip #1:
My first tip is for full, luxurious looking window treatments. Custom drapes are expensive. There is a lot of design and work that goes into making them. The result is worth the expense, but some of us don’t have that kind of cash lying around. When you buy curtain panels for your home, don’t just purchase two panels per window. Save up and double that number. Hanging two panels on each side of your window will give you the custom look for less. Even better? Buy the lined panels. These will drape better and not look so skimpy when open.
Simple Interior Design Tip #2:
Tip number two involves your closet. Face it, you have spent lots of time and money on your wardrobe. Just because you don’t have a dedicated room for your dream walk-in closet doesn’t mean you can’t make the one you have feel special.
Paint the walls in your closet your favorite color. Make it something cheerful that will brighten your mood when you open the door. And once you’ve done that, hang a pretty light fixture instead of that bare bulb that came with it.
Simple Interior Design Tip #3:
I’ve got one more easy and inexpensive trick that will help you to create a feeling of luxury. This one is for your bathroom. No, it isn’t wall-to-wall carpet (Ew!) but it is close. Buy a “real” rug instead of the fluffy white ones that only stay white for about a week. Area rugs are made for lots of wear and tear. They can stand up to the little bit of water you get on them after your shower. Plus, there are so many more choices than those little bathmats offer.
Your surroundings have a profound impact on your soul. Making them beautiful doesn’t have to have a profound impact on your bank account!
